Once upon a time, Gru dreamt of stealing the moon; these days he’s a single adoptive father of three precious girls. Having giving up his spectacular life of crime, Gru now aims to produce a new line of jams with the help of his tiny minions and his old pal, Dr.Nefario. Feeling unfulfilled in his newfound role as a jam-maker, Dr.Nefario announces that he will be departing for more evil pastures just as Gru is approached by the Anti-Villain League to capture the mysterious culprit who just stole a top-secret research lab filled with PX 41, an experimental serum with the strength to transform harmless animals into ravenous monsters. The AVL is certain that the culprit is covering his tracks by posing as a small business owner at a local mall, and assign their best agent Lucy to aid Gru in identifying him. Meanwhile, Gru’s oldest adopted daughter Margo falls for rebellious teen Antonio, the leather-jacketed son of boisterous Mexican cantina owner Eduardo. Now, with Gru’s paternal instincts kicking into full gear just as a plot begins to unfold, the devoted new father must divide his time between saving Miranda from total heartbreak and saving the world. All the while, a suitable mother for the girls may have been standing right under Gru’s pointy nose. Despicable Me 2 is a sequel to Despicable Me. On a scale from 1-10, I would give this movie an 8. This movie is great for little kids, and it has really funny kid humor. Everyone loves minions, so if your kids do too then you should watch this movie.

The Apple iPad Mini 2 is a great product. It’s like a computer but smaller! With the iPad Mini, I can download apps for everyday things instead of having to carry separate items such as books, agendas, and games. I use my iPad Mini all the time because it’s easy to take with me wherever I go. I like to read, so I downloaded the Kindle app and can read the books I want, and when I finish one book, I can just click on another. I can also watch movies on it; it has great display, so the picture is clear when I am looking at pictures and other things. On my iPad I have all my social media apps downloaded so I can use Facebook and Instagram. I can also play games; there are hundreds to choose from with topics from education to just for fun; there are games for everyone. There are weather and news apps, so you can keep up on current events around the world. There are so many different ones that range from finance, food and drink, health and fitness, and so many more. With the new retina display, the picture is better and clearer to the eye. The iPad also has its own camera. The camera has great quality that can be used to take pictures of anything. I love my iPad Mini. With all the features and apps, it’s easy to use and take anywhere. I use my iPad more then I use my phone. I would suggest the Ipad to anyone who wants a tablet or something they can take on the go. They may be expensive, but it is definitely worth it! You won’t regret spending your money on one of them. by Zachary Pierson Some people have a problem about not wearing pajama pants to school. Sometimes I do too. What is it going to hurt the school if we wear pajamas to school every once in awhile? There are other issues people have with the school policy including no hats in school and no cut-offs in school. I believe that wearing hats in school is just disrespectful and that all hats should be off when you enter into any building. I also believe that people need to be modest and cutoffs after a certain point are too revealing. There are a couple of ways we could solve the pajama pants problem that could benefit everyone. One of these ways is to do what the teachers had to do for jeans Friday last year except we make one change. We make it so that you have to pay as an example one dollar and that the “theme” changes every week. One week it could be hats and the next pajama pants. The people that want to wear hats or pajama pants could still wear them except that they would be inside the school rules for the day. The one-dollar could then go to a charity in the county or someone nearby. Like when everyone was fundraising for the Anthony Crump case, the school could have used that for a fundraiser. Or the StuCo could put it on to help and pay for homecomings and other StuCo funded events. The “themes” could go farther than that though; the “themes” could include hats, pajama pants, go home an hour early, cut out first hour, open-lunch, cell phones, and just stuff like that in general. There are several ways to solve the problems. It is just that the student body will have to talk to the school board if we want any of this to ever happen. That could solve a lot of the schools “problems.” by Aysia Harper There are so many things going on in this world today. They may seem unreal to others as it does to me, but maybe others think it’s life. The United States is becoming a scary place; it is taking a turn for the worst. The President is making decision without the counsel saying it is okay. To me that does not seem right; he is going behind our backs and is going to lead this country to a bad place. The next presidential election can’t come fast enough. We need someone in there that knows what he or she is doing and won’t make decisions without the counsel. The rumor going around recently is that Obama wants to put chips in us. This won’t happen for a while, but I think he needs out of there. There is no good in what he has done or is going to do. Along with his wife, she is helping us kids in school but changing out lunches, so we won’t have as many obese children. You want to know what I think. It is dumb because we kids are not eating enough or won’t eat because the food is gross, and we all are going home and eating whatever junk food we can find. We are all hungry and are not being fed right. Whatever she changed was a bad idea because I don’t think it has changed anything. That family has done no good for anyone. The next election is in three years away, and, hopefully, by then people will open their eyes a little bit and see where our country has gone--in the wrong direction and has taken a turn for the worst. Obama has lied to us about so many things; what else is he keeping from us? First, he lied about our health care and that everyone will get to keep their other one as well as Obama care. Most people after they signed up for Obama care found out that they didn’t get to keep their other life insurance. Why do we keep getting lied to? Another thing that we recently found out about was the NSA and what they have done. In my personal opinion, we need someone to run our country in the right direction, someone to get us back on track and not lie to us about every other word that comes out of his or her mouth. by Briannah Davidson This movie first came out in August 2011. It is based on Pierre Boulle’s novel Planet of the Apes. Directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was nominated for 17 awards. It won 13 different categories which were Character Animation in a Live Action Production, Best Visual Effects, Best Feature Film, Technical Achievement, Best Sci-Fi Movie, Coolest Creature, Favorite Hero, again Best Visual Effects, again Best Science Fiction Film, Best Supporting Actor, Best Special Effects, Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture! Incredible. Their budget was $93 million. They made $481,8000,873. The producers are Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver. The first time I saw this movie all I wanted to do was watch it over and over again. It was a very great, inspiring story, and it has a very good story line behind it. Scientist Will, (one of the main characters) is testing the viral-based drug ALZ-112 on chimpanzees to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. The drug is given to a chimpanzee, Bright Eyes, greatly increasing her intelligence, but she is forced from her cage, goes on a rampage, and is killed. They later find out that she was only trying to protect her baby that they were unaware of. Will's boss tells the institution to kill the chimps, but Will sneaks the baby to his house. The ALZ-112 was in baby Caesar's genes, and he is progressing amazingly. Will's father has Alzheimer's and when he gets out of the house, he runs the irate neighbor's nice new car into the cars around it. The neighbor was very angry and had tackled Will's father and Caesar got out of the house and attacked the man and bit his finger off! Caesar is then placed in a primate shelter where he is treated cruelly by the other chimps and the chief guard. Will promises Caesar he will get him out, but when he finally does come to get him he does not want to go. He is mad. He escapes and goes to Will's house and steals the ALZ-112, and Caesar lets the gas fill up the facility, and all of the chimps escape. Then they go to the zoo and set those chimps free. They cross the Golden Gate Bridge getting to their target, freedom at the Redwoods. by David Miramontes
Quincy Matthew Hanley, born October 26, 1986, better known by his stage name Schoolboy Q is an American hip hop recording artist from South Central Los Angeles, California. In 2009, Schoolboy Q signed to an independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Schoolboy Q is also a member of the hip-hop group Black Hippy, along with label-mates and fellow West Coast rappers, Ab-soul, Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar. Schoolboy Q had two small projects such as mix tapes before he made his first album entitled Setbacks. It released in January 2011. A little over a year later, he released a second album named Habits & Contradictions. Schoolboy Q is now working on another album named Oxymoron. The album, preceded by the lead single “Collard Greens”, is set to be released February 25, 2014. In the early life of Schoolboy Q he really liked football and started playing at the age of six. Until the age of 21 he played receiver, cornerback, and tailback; however, in college he only played receiver and returner. After graduating high school, he went to college to play football. He said in an interview that he didn’t really like school and that he hardly ever paid attention in class but tried his best, so he could be eligible. Schoolboy Q was asked in an interview how he got his stage name. He said that when he was in school he had to wear glasses because of his eyesight and all his friends would call him Schoolboy, so he kept the name and used his first initial from his first name Quincy to create the name Schoolboy Q. His senior year he got affiliated in gang-related crimes and never graduated college. At the age of 21, he got really serious about music and in 2006 began to work with TDE and from then on started focusing on his music and met label mates Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, his soon to be Black Hippy group along with Kendrick Lamar. By Sara P. Should students be allowed to use their phones in school? They aren’t going away; that much is clear. They are becoming more advanced everyday, but modern technology is something we all use and need to know. Cell phones help students to be able to access the Internet and other sources to help them learn, they also provide other applications such as planners, calendars, and other tools that can be useful to learning and remembering to do our homework. Instead of spending your energy making sure we don’t bring them to school, use that same energy to show us how to use them right, and other ways to use them instead of just the normal texting, Instagram, and Facebook. Most schools have now converted to using computers and technology, but budgets are tight, so instead of giving every student a computer, let us have our own devices. Almost all of high school and junior high students have a cell phone, iPad, or tablet, or some sort of technology they can use. I read an article where a school came up with this idea called B.Y.O.D (bring your own device). This would save the school a lot. The technology can be used for free instead of spending tons on computers for each student. Lisa Nielson- “Cell phones can serve as notepads or as an alarm for setting study reminders.” Most students have a short attention span. Having cells phones and letting students have their music can be a way of making it quieter during class time when the teacher isn’t teaching anymore, and other students are working on work. I think cell phones in school can be both a good and a bad thing. Instead of being able to have them in the classroom, we could have them during passing period and during lunch, or during our free time when we get done with our work. I understand it can be hard to monitor kids, I know cheating is something you have to factor in, but when there is a test or something make a rule for that kind of thing. When having cell phones in school, we would have access to information and tools to help students better their education, remembering to do homework, and other things. So should students be allowed to have their phones in school; what’s your opinion? I think we should be able to, so we can keep in touch with other friends and peers we don’t see everyday! by Zachary Pierson On a scale of 1-10, I would give this movie an 8. Grudge Match is a movie about two boxers who were the best and greatest boxers of their time losing only to the other boxer once. On the eve of their famous tiebreaker match Henry “Razor” Sharp announces his retirement leaving the whole world to their imagination as to why he quit and who would’ve won the third fight. Grudge Match is directed by Peter Segal and was released to theaters on December 25, 2013. The main characters include Henry “Razor” Sharp (Sylvester Stallone), Billy “The Kid” McDonnen (Robert De Niro), and Dante Slate Jr. (Kevin Hart). Hart as in any other movie is the comedian. He brings the humor into anything that he is in. The runtime is 113 minutes long. Grudge Match starts with Dante going to Henry’s house asking him if he would agree to go into a videogame studio and let them record him throwing a few punches at a dummy. While he is there, however, he runs into his old rival Billy McDonnen, and they started to fight each other. I don’t know if you have ever watched two old guys fighting, but it is really hilarious. Anyway someone takes a video of the two of them fighting and the video goes viral. They then agree to reschedule the fight on what they decide to call “Grudgement Day” to finally decide who is indeed the better boxer out of the two of them. Grudge Match has everything you could possibly want in a movie. There is action, comedy, and romance. There was a part where I even teared up during this movie. It really shows that your age doesn’t matter; you are as young/old as you want to be. It also shows that people who are the greatest enemies can also become your greatest friend. I definitely recommend going to see this movie. I would just not bring your 3-7 year olds because there is a slight language issue with one of the characters. by Hailey White Divergent is the new book that everybody is reading this year. You probably all have heard people talking about it, and it has seemed very interesting. Well, I am telling you that is it more than interesting; it is absolutely amazing! Divergent is about a teenage girl Beatrice, who is in the fraction Abnegation. There are 5 fractions--Dauntless, Condor, Erudite, Amity, and, of course, Abnegation. When you turn 16, you have to take a test and this test will tell you which one you would fit into. The fractions are all different and represent something different. Abnegation is selfless, Dauntless is the protectors of the city, Amity is the earthy people, Condor tell the truth even if it hurts, and Erudite are smart people who make up things like technology. Beatrice took the test and got three results and that is not heard of so the lady who gave her the test changed her answers and told her she is Divergent, Beatrice is so confused but she can’t tell anyone, not her parents or her brother Caleb. She doesn’t know which fraction she is going to choose tomorrow. That next day at the ceremony she choose dauntless. Her parents were very disappointed especially since her brother chose Erudite. When you choose a fraction you leave your old one behind, and you don’t get to see them again. “Fraction before blood.” Beatrice changes her name to Tris, and she is not for sure about dauntless, and she is still so confused about Divergent. She wants to know about it but can’t say anything. Will she figure out what is going on, and why she can’t tell anyone? By Sara Pinkham In this sports, drama-filled movie, pro-baseball player Cory Brand has a substance abuse problem and is suspended from playing for eight weeks. He is forced to attend a rehab program in his hometown of Oklahoma after having several alcohol-related incidents. Before he can play again, Cory must complete a twelve-step rehab program at a local church in his hometown. While on their way home, Cory is responsible for injuring his brother in a crash that involves alcohol, which leaves his brother with some injuries. While his brother is recovering, Cory is forced to coach his brother’s Little League baseball team of misfits. While coaching, Cory is attending Celebrate Recovery, the 12-step program he needs to complete before he can play again, but is he going to be able to play again, at least for the same team? As his young baseball players help him to relearn to love the game again, Cory realizes his need to forget his past and realize his future and win back the love he left behind. While back home, Cory reunites with and old high school girlfriend that he didn’t realize he was still in love with. But she has a son, who is playing on the baseball team he is coaching; can Cory win her love back and get a second chance? While going through the program, Cory is taking it as a joke; he isn’t doing what he needs to be in order to get back to playing baseball. When he finally finishes, he hasn’t learned much. While in his hometown it is time for the all-star picks again, will he make it? After everything goes wrong, Cory learns what he is really missing out on, he is given the chance to play baseball again but that isn’t all he wants. In this movie Cory finds himself on a powerful journey of earning forgiveness and earning the trust back from the people he loves. Homerun is a powerful movie that reminds us that with God it is never too late to regain the love and trust of the people we have done wrong. In this movie Cory finds all of this and more as he is finding him self on a roller coaster of emotions and learning to forgive that one person who has done him wrong. Will Cory learn the meaning of love? Will he learn to forgive? Well, you’ll have to watch the movie to find out! |
