For this edition I really took a chance on the book. I was kind of worried that it was going to be a really bad book, but it was actually pretty good. The book I chose to read was Izzy, Willy-Nilly. I give this book a three out of five stars. It was a pretty good book, and I would recommend it, but definitely not my favorite. It is a pretty average and decent book.
Izzy, Willy-Nilly is about an amputee and the book tells all about how she adjusts to the changes of losing half a leg. The book starts with her in the hospital not remembering anything about why she is there at all except she was in a car wreck. Izzy had three friends, Suzy, Lisa, and Lauren. When they come to visit in the hospital, Lauren won’t even really come in, and that friendship is lost. Suzy doesn’t care to sit around and would rather be hanging out at the mall or something like that, so that friendship is barely hanging on but losing fast. Lisa really cares and still wants to hangout with Izzy, even with not being able to go places really. In the hospital, one person, who wasn’t really a friend comes by to visit, Rosemund. Rosemund comes by and really starts to be a friend.
After Izzy gets going in physical therapy, they release her when she is more able to get around. Izzy realizes that she is really depressed at night when no one is around because she and her family aren’t ones to cry. Rosemund keeps coming by and helps her with her homework and just to hang out. Suzy and Lisa come by one day to hang out a little but Suzy is rushing through to meet some guy at the mall on time, but Izzy can tell that Lisa would rather stay, but Suzy is her ride. Rosemund becomes a really good friend and has lots of fun with her. Izzy’s twin brothers come home from college and hang out with the family over Thanksgiving break. Izzy’s dad decides that they should put in a pool because Izzy needs a way to get exercise, and it could be a good investment and a fun way for them all to hang out.
I think this is a good book because it shows some of the changes people go through after traumas. This book is really a good read. Izzy, Willy-Nilly can be found in the school library.
