School rules are overrated sometimes. For example, one of Moscow High Schools new rules is that we cannot wear leggings anymore if our behind is not covered up. Not even sport leggings. We don’t wear them to show off our body; we wear them because they are so comfortable and they are so easy to slip on in the morning.
With that being said, we also have a school rules that involves cell phones. The student body cannot have cell phones throughout the school day; we can’t even bring them inside the school.
I believe that we should be able to have our cell phones throughout the day. I also believe that we should be able to use them when we get all of our homework done or the last five minutes of class or something of that sort.
I understand the teacher’s point of view, but they should also understand the student body’s point of view. The teachers have a very good point about not allowing cell phones in the school, and that is that the student would never get their work done or that she/he will always be distracted, and maybe that there will be cyber bulling or getting onto bad websites. My point of view, and I know that I talk for a few, is that we should be allowed to have our phones because of emergencies, simply ordering food and having someone go pick it up because you don’t want to go to lunch and you don’t want to starve, or texting family when you get done with your work. It’s basically like a reward for getting all the assigned work done. If the student rushes through their work just to get on their phones, well, that is their fault, and it all comes back to that person.
Teachers and students do have their opinions but we have to look at the general side of things; we can’t just favor one side especially if we favor the side that has the older people.
I know that teachers know what is best for the students, but maybe sometimes they are going a little overboard, since they have the privilege to do that. I personally think that having cell phones might boost up a few grades; it might even change attitudes.
Personally, I could live without my phone, but it is nice to have something to look forward to after a stressful hour in school. Maybe you just unlock your phone and check out an encouraging message and that one message boosts up your whole day.
